The Shock That Started It All
In 1987, Grant barely survived an electric shock injury.
30 years later, in a small town Aussie garage, he invented a glove that could prevent it from happening to anyone else.
Meet Grant Staples, the founder & CEO of The Glove Company & Connect 10, and the inventor behind PVAD®. (And the guy pictured above)
Grant’s story starts in 1987, working as an apprentice on a narrow landing at an unfamiliar jobsite. Grant says the job was “pretty stock standard till I was flat on my back in pain”.
That fateful day, a sudden electric shock hurled Grant off the edge, the jolt tore through him, and his body hit the ground hard. After thinking he was done for, and the blasting pain telling him he was still there, Grant couldn’t have been happier that he had just bought his first set of plastic soled boots, saying they had a major role in him still being here today.
Grant's Safety Mission
Years later in 2007, Grant made the biggest move in his mission to keep workers safe, founding The Glove Company. His innovative gloves quickly won the trust of millions, including the Australian Defence Forces.
And by 2017, Grant set out to achieve his boldest goal yet, to create the world’s first glove that detects electricity.
Over the next 7 years, Grant spent thousands of hours in a garage in Nelson Bay, a small seaside town in NSW, testing different materials and options, struggling with the advanced science of aerial design and signal capture, going through hundreds of prototypes and failures, determined to succeed.
And he did, he built what had never been built before, a globally patented, wearable, early warning system designed to save lives by detecting AC voltage without contact.
Then he put it to the test in the first real-world trials. Within the first week of trials, PVAD® prevented electric shock injuries in three separate incidents.
By the end of the trials, 1 in 5 trial users reported PVAD® directly prevented an electrical injury.
These workers walking away from shocks that could have ended them gave Grant the final push to release his innovation.
Now, PVAD® Tech Gloves are here to protect you and your team from what almost stopped Grant all those years ago.
